Dear Reader,

The global economy appears to be stabilising, albeit at a low level. The signs are positive, with the first indications of growth coming in September. Although there can be no talk of sweeping growth as yet, it is time to prepare for the future.

At the moment we are currently working with our customers to come up with a range of solutions making drives and automation products more efficient, thus creating added value on all levels. High-quality products are of course the basis for this as their quality and reliability are thus guaranteed in the long term, as you will read in our main article. Our On the Job section contains various reports outlining where these products are deployed, in this case the packaging, food, printing and lift-building industries.

We also have interesting news about our 8400 frequency inverter platform, which now offers the "8400 protec" series – a decentralised system including "plus & drive" and safety technology (p. 6). As energy efficiency is currently another hot topic, we also have a report on our Drive Solution Designer that allows you to create your own efficient drive and automation concepts (pp. 14 – 15), on opportunities for savings offered by Lenze geared motors (pp. 26 – 27), and the imminent EuP directive for electric motors (p. 30). Our technology article on electric mobility (pp. 12 – 13) and our Global Report (pp. 28 – 29), this time focussing on the U.S., are also worth a read.
